In snow-covered Bucharest, authorities decided they would keep schools closed on Monday due to blizzards and traffic disruption. In Giurgiu and Buzau regions in the south and southeast, interior ministry employees assisted over 160 stranded people and were also working to release a minibus full of children trapped in the snow. Heavy snow closed parts of the highway linking Bucharest to the Black Sea port of Constanta, due to low visibility.Railway traffic was also affected, with more than 20 trains connecting the capital to other southeastern cities being cancelled while power cuts hit about 20 villages, most of them in the region of Caras-Severin. Weather conditions are expected to improve in Romania starting on Tuesday, officials said.

AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
